Supporting Children on the Autism Spectrum
Date and cost TBA-3 hour course

Autism is a common hidden disability known by the terms ASD/ASC and is a spectrum disorder

affecting children to a greater or lesser extent.

This course explores how to recognise the traits of autism but more importantly how to
support children and young people who are showing these traits!

We look at real life situations, stories and anecdotes, find out what worked well,
what did not work so well and why. We help you in identifying the best practices when
supporting children on the spectrum and you will leave the course with a greater understanding
and more knowledge about supporting the children we work or live with.

Positive Behaviour
(linked to Autism and ADHD)
Date and cost TBA - 3 hour course

All of us have certain behaviours that we find tough to deal with. When working with
children we need the skills to reinforce positive behaviour and to manage behaviour
that is unacceptable within the boundaries that have been agreed with the
child/young person or their parent/carer. Behaviour is a form of communication,
but do we always know what is being communicated? This workshop aims to
give you an understanding of challenging behaviour, strategies to manage when
it occurs and will help identify behaviour that is a presentation of an underlying condition.

Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE)

Awareness Training
Date and cost TBA - 3 hour course

This workshop will explore the current issues around Child Sexual Exploitation and
build your awareness of the indicators and the risk factors. This is a seminar session
which is largely trainer led with some group discussions. At the end of the session
participants would be able to:

• Understand definition of CSE
• Identify the risk factors for children and young people at risk of CSE
• Identify the indicators that would tell them that a child or young person was
being sexually exploited
• Understand basic steps they should take in responding to CSE (i.e. safeguarding procedures)
